Southampton information

Southampton PICU

All families of children who are in PICU require help and support to cope with the reality of their child's critical illness and to manage their other family responsibilities. Please see our parents and guardians guide for information on visiting and other routines in the PICU.

Our facilities include:

  • accommodation for the next of kin near to the unit
  • a separate waiting area for families
  • refreshment facilities and a quiet lounge
  • a play room is available for siblings

We aim to work in partnership with families, keeping you involved and part of the decision making process. All members of the multi-professional team are encouraged to adopt this philosophy.

Travel to Southampton

Please view a Google Map and travel information to Southampton General Hospital.

On arrival, park in the multi-story car park at the front of the hospital. Please bring your parking ticket to the unit and we will organise a discounted long stay ticket for you.

The postcode of the hospital for sat-nav users is SO16 6YD.

PICU is located in centre block on D level. This is immediately above the main entrance to the hospital. If you get lost, please come in the main entrance and ask at the security desk for directions or phone the unit number (023 8120 6972) and someone will come down to accompany you to the unit.

The main doors to the unit remain locked at all times. Please buzz at the door to be let in. Please be patient if we do not answer immediately as staff may be busy with an emergency.
