Referral process

Please call the SONeT call centre as soon as you suspect a baby might need transferring for intensive, specialist care or repatriation. There are different categories of transfers undertaken by the transport service, these include emergency unplanned transfers for neonatal intensive or specialist care and planned elective transfers.

Emergency unplanned transfers are usually babies needing neonatal intensive care or specialist services not provided in their local hospital. Planned elective transfers are usually back transfers / planned repatriations to local units for continuation of neonatal care.

More information about the referral process for transfer can be found by following the links on the side of this page for unplanned or planned transfers.
